Posted by u/Frixsev 2 days ago My line of works brings me to hundreds of people's properties every year. I constantly run into dogs. Are there any treats/biscuits you would recommend me to keep in my truck to help with initial greetings?

It's a tactic I've seen mail and delivery people do for forever, and it almost always seems to work well in establishing a positive first impression with a dog, especially unsure ones. My question though is how health-friendly something like basic milk bones would be. Are there dogs out there who can't handle them well, and could get sick? If so, is there some type of treat out there that's pretty universally safe for any dog so that I don't have to worry about accidentally hurting someone's pup

Maximum-Sail648 2 days ago I think it's a really awesome thing to ask! Everyone does have different dog needs. My recommendation is something small for treats, and ask too. My other thoughts are just being aware of the dogs body language. My dog doesn't want to be greeted by strangers until she's ready, so I tell people to ignore her. If you threw a treat at her from a distance she'd love you much quicker. Make her come to a stranger to be handed a treat, she's more cautious. Also even where to

Professor Tricia · 2 days ago I know a lot of dogs with chicken allergies. You might want to avoid those.

Stained GlassMagpie 2 days ago 100%, my Saint Bernard will begin itching and crying like crazy if she gets even a tiny treat that has any kind of chicken byproduct anywhere in the ingredients list. Then she shits water for the next 24 hours. Our Amazon driver is a sweet baby angel, though, and he always leaves small milkbones on top of our packages when he delivers. I love that he always wants to leave her little offerings, and love even more that he doesn't actually feed them to her.

adultier-adult - 2 days ago I regularly have dogs visit my office. I keep small and medium milk bones in the office and always ask first if they can have one. I've had a few dogs that don't like them, but most do!

Known_Detail_4671 2 days ago Respectfully I wouldn't be happy about you giving treats to my dogs. If you ask, I'll happily give you stuff you can feed them. Most owners will be fine with it but it's always best to ask first.

pdxbatman 2 days ago My dogs will take anything you give them but both have allergies and sensitivities so I'd rather you don't give them anything. They will happily take pets and loves though! I get that doesn't really help you with your work but it's my preference when you're on my property.

BangBangPing5Dolla 2 days ago If your at the point of having to distract someones dog with food to do you job I don't think it matters personally. If your dog is sensitive as many in this thread suggest it's on the owner to keep them away from a delivery guy doing his job.

mothernatureisfickle 2 days ago . I have an Amazon delivery guy and a mail person who both love to leave treats for my Aussies. They are so kind. The problem is one of my Aussies cannot have chicken or he will chew holes in his skin. When I grab the treats I always have safe treats in my hand and I give my Aussies my treats and then unfortunately throw the gift treats away. The Amazon guy has full conversations with my dogs so I just don't have the heart to tell him.

Coomassie Blue - 2 days ago Asking permission is key. My FedEx guy is a HUGE dog lover and gives my girl treats if he catches us while I'm out walking her, but he made sure to ask!

Tensor32 days ago Nothing. My dog isnt allergic, but to be frank, you never know what it is with 100% certainty. Never know who has a grudge against me or the dog. Its 0 benefit to me or my dog, so not worth the risk.

Amyarchy 2 days ago Always, always, always ask first. I would be pretty ticked off if you fed my dog anything because he has a sensitive stomach and I'm guessing you aren't volunteering to take him out to poop every 2 hours all night long.

Frixsev OP 2 days ago Yeah I'd never just toss or hand something to someone's dog without making sure it's alright first. Well, unless I thought I was about to get mauled and that might work as a distraction. But thankfully haven't been in that situation yet..

unimeg07 2 days ago edited 2 days ago I think most dogs fall into one of two camps: Not particularly sensitive, therefore their owners will let them eat anything (within reason) in small quantities. Has significant food sensitivities, therefore their owners have to be extremely careful about what they eat and probably wouldn't accept a treat from a stranger regardless of what you say it is So, milkbones fine for the first group, second group probably wouldn't take anything even if it were suitab

ZZBC 2 days ago There absolutely are dogs who have very specific diets. Please don't feed anyone's pet without permission. I have a dog with a kidney issues and he has a very strict diet or it could do permanent damage to his kidneys.
